Another tour we booked with pragueexperience.com was to Kutna Hora.
Again the Guide was very good, giving us any information we needed - this time in English and Spanish as there was a few spanish speakers with us.

I'd booked the tour as I had heard about Sedlec Ossuary - A kind of church that has been decorated with the bones of 40,000 people:

This place was smaller than I had expected so although we didn't have that much time to look around, it was enough.

A short drive more and we got to see the cathedral:

which was very impressive, and also the Royal Mint - this pic from inside:

Kutna Hora used to be the main economic centre due to large nearby silver mines so the trip we took were ideal in the telling of the town's history, although there were some places which were closed as it was winter which may have been good to see too.

I had thought about hiring a car and driving over to look around Kutna Hora myself, but with the extra information we received from the tour guide, along with the ease of getting there, I'm glad I didn't.

So if you've an afternoon free when you're in Prague, then this excursion is well worth taking up.

Having been on this excursion last week, I can highly recommend to others.

Instructions on where to meet were easy (although they would have picked up from the hotel) and soon we were on our way in a comfortable minibus.
Our guide was friendly and after introducing gave us an interesting history of Prague and the Czech republic in general (in clear english and italian) as we drove out towards Detenice where the evening's activities were to take place.

Upon arrival at the Castle approx. an hour later we were welcomed with a glass of champagne. I'm not sure you would call it a castle so much as a big old house really.
Whilst it was worth seeing, it wasn't the most exciting of places.

A short walk away was the pub/brewery type place and after a quick tour of the old brewing floor we were sat in what I guess you would call the dining area of the pub, which was a large room with rows of large tables at the sides, decorated with human skulls with medaeval type entertainers who often walked over the tables.

Here is the only picture I took that night:

I guess if you were american you might call the staff unfriendly as in the description as they don't overdo it, but they always came over and offered more of their on-site brewed beer with a smile when you were low.
Food was excellent; Good hearty meal - including about half a chicken. A vegetarian option was available, although we were told that it was so nice that the vegetarians might decide to opt for the chicken anyway - They don't get the concept of veggies very well in Europe!

Entertainment included musicians that sounded a lot like Corvus Corax (if you've heard of them) to firebreathers and witch burning.

Several beers later we headed back to Prague where we were dropped off at our respective hotels, all with the satisfaction of a great medieval experience. - Thanks to all involved.

A.
